Toronto and the chocolate factory
If I had to pick just one thing I loved most about Toronto, it wouldn’t be its eclectic collection of fascinating residents, its beautiful parks or its wide selection of truly great restaurants and bars. Oh no, it would be the chocolate factories. Its precisely because of the parks, and great people, and bars and restaurants that Toronto collects a crowd that knows how to enjoy life. And there is no better way to bring joy to a life than with fine chocolate.
Soma
Soma chocolate makers can be found in the Distillery district. Soma’s factory is glassed off from the small store and coffee shop, so you can watch the chocolatiers in action. It’s pretty fascinating and I can’t think of a better way to spend a rainy day than sipping their exquisite Mayan hot chocolate while watching poetry in motion. They carry a large range of amazing chocolates for all tastes.
Chocosol
Chocosol is the little chocolate factory with a big heart! This fair-trade, eco-friendly manufacturer can be found on the 4th floor of St. Joseph House near Yonge and Wellesley. Chocosol delights are manufactured from stone-ground ingredients without dairy or refined sugars. Chocosol likes to share the love by hosting special events and workshops to help chocolate lovers to enjoy a more socially and environmentally conscious chocolate experience. See their website for details.
The Chocolateria
The Chocolateria on Ronscesvalles is a classic example of a chocolate maker gone wild. Renowned for their wacky take on all things chocolate, this daring harbinger of delights offers such diverse options as chocolate-covered potato chips, maple bacon truffles, red pepper truffles or balsamic vinegar truffles. They are surprisingly delicious. The Chocolateria also offers chocolate making classes for those who wish to slather bacon in chocolate in the comfort of their own homes.
Whatever your taste in chocolate, whether sweet, savory, wacky or wild, Toronto has a chocolate maker to suit your palette. Remember; everything is better with chocolate!
