Its summertime and the living is indeed easy. The City ofToronto is the best place to be for the summertimeScrooge. There is a plethora of fun, free and fantastic thingsto do that won’t cost you a cent. The city is home to beaches, gardens and free concerts all summerlong.
York University Star Gaze
Every Wednesday night from May to August from 9 – 11 PM, Torontonians can turn their eyes to theskies as York University opens their observatory to the public for free. Stargazes can get astronomylessons from the experts and gaze into deep dark space. Visitors are encouraged to bring their owncameras to snap shots of the stars.
Harbourfront Centre and Mel Lastman Square offer free concerts
Every Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon, music lovers can look forward to free shows bymore than 90 Canadian and international performers at the Harbourfront Centre’s 20 live (Juneto September). On Sundays, you can enjoy Serenades at Mel Lastman Square with orchestras, jazzensembles, swing bands and more from July 11 to August 22 (7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
Toronto Summer Music Festival
This year, the festival will take place on May 31st from 12-1 PM at the Four Season’s Center for theperforming Arts at 145 Queen Street West. This chamber music extravaganza shouldn’t be missed. Theconcert is free and is on a first come, first served basis.
In addition to the free concerts and events, you can also enjoy the beach on the lake shore. Take a walkon the sand, folic in the water or play volleyball. You can have a picnic in High Park, hula hoop in TrinityBellwoods Park or go on an adventure to the CN Tower. Whatever you decide to do with your summer inToronto, it doesn’t have to set you back an arm and a leg.
