5 Men's Style Resolutions for a Well-dressed 2015

The beginning of a new year is a time to review the past year, reassess what you could have done better, and plan for the future. The most common resolutions I hear every year are to join a gym, drink less, eat healthier, and travel more. These resolutions are great, but a big one that people tend to neglect is updating their personal appearance.

As we all know, first impressions mean everything now-a-days and before you even open your mouth, you have been judged and categorized by almost everyone you meet. Also, with this new flock of style conscious men coming up through the ranks, you can’t possibly afford to fall behind the pack.

With that being said, I have put together a list of 5 easy to follow men’s style resolutions that will have you looking your best no matter what comes your way.

Out with the Old
It’s time to take an in-depth look at your wardrobe. We all have those items we can’t seem to get rid of but know we will never wear it. It’s a new year and time to let go! One good rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn it in a year then it’s time to pass it on. I find the best way to do this is to make three piles; Keep, Fix, and Donate.

Clean it Out
Keeping your closet clean and organized is the best way to utilize your wardrobe. When I am putting an outfit together, I find the easiest way for me to find items is through categorizing through commodity (blazers with tailored apparel, ties with accessories). This will allow you to take a look at your menswear collection uninterrupted by other pieces.

Be Inspired
When I first got interested in men’s style I was always looking around for inspiration. I visited blogs, read magazines, took out books, people watched, watched fashion related films and basically anything that I could do to educate myself on menswear. I thought the best way to be impeccably dressed was to have as much knowledge in the subject as possible. Luckily you won’t have to take this same route as men’s
style sources, like my own (MrCavaliere.com), have created a place where all those various elements are available at the click of a button.

Mend the Gaps

After completing 1 and 2, you will find you have tons of space for new fresh product. One word of advice is to have a plan before you hit the mall. Impulse shopping is the worst way to build a great wardrobe. Focus on finding the gaps in your current menswear collection and target those pieces the next time you’re out shopping.

Get Tailored

Having a great tailor is key in having great style. A tailor can transform almost any ill fitting item in your wardrobe into a tapered masterpiece. This is where you bring the “Fix” pile from step 1!

Lastly, I want to wish you all a dapper and successful 2015!

Sincerely,
