Summer Savings Part 2: Biggest Wastes of Summer Cash

Welcome to Part 2 of the Mogo Summer Savings Series. We’re here to help you beat the heat, get the most out of your summer vacation plans – and stay within a reasonable budget. Ready to get spending, saving and sunning? Here we go!

**

Summer is one of the best times of the year. With a care-free attitude and longer days, it can be easy to spend more than you planned! It seems like there’s always another BBQ, concert or excuse to get out of your city and into another one.

Without some planning, it’s easy to over-spend and blow your summer budget (and nobody wants that!). Here are some of the most unnecessary expenses that can eat up your budget – without giving you great returns.

Eating out too often

****This is definitely one of my biggest expenses! As soon as summer hits, I want to go to as many sunny patios as possible, but those tabs keep running themselves up higher and higher. To combat situations like this, plans your meals out in advance.

Don’t want to spend a ton when you’re meeting friends? Opt for an early dinner at home, and have a social drink instead. You’ve got all that extra daylight, so there’s no need to rush out before having a sensible home cooked meal. The money you save will be worth it.

Extra Fees

Summer is a classic time to forget about some responsibilities! Be careful for unpaid credit card bills, late fees on cable or outrageous payday loan payments. With simple solutions like online billing, or some of Mogo‘s great flexible (and low cost) products, you should be able to keep your fees to an automatic minimum!

Inflexible Travel

Summer time means higher travel rates! So, if possible, try and keep a flexible timeline for hitting the road. Long weekends often mean higher prices, so try and work your way to non-peak weekends to take in our country’s great sights.
